ISLA TV FOCUSES ON CONCERN FOR CHILDREN AND THE PLANET
Isla Television, Mabuhay Channel’s advocacy programming, focuses this May on the welfare of special children and ongoing efforts to protect and conserve the country’s rich but highly threatened biodiversity.
Showing on Ekolohiya, Isla’s features on the environment and people who love and work for the environment, is HOPE FOR THE EAGLE, a documentary on the projects and programs of the Philippine Eagle Foundation. Based in Malagos District at the edge of Davao City’s watershed area, the Philippine Eagle Foundation works to breed the majestic but endangered Philippine eagle (jeffryii pithecophaga) in captivity and to rehabilitate, protect and conserve forests into which it endeavors to release the birds when they reach maturity. The foundation’s advocacy is to save the Philippine eagle and in so doing, save the forests on which people and the country rely on for their long-term survival. Join the Foundation’s scientists and advocates as they care for and build homes and habitats for people and the Philippine eagle.
On TEKNIKA, watch, learn and enjoy from the experience of Teoville Subdivision and Tahanan Village in Paranaque as they embark on ZERO WASTE MANAGEMENT that has not only solved the problem of garbage disposal in their communities but also provided a source of profitable alternative livelihood for members of the homeowners’ association who are now getting paid in advising other subdivisions in the area on how to successfully lick the garbage problem in a manner that involves recycling and composting.

Suffering from severe disability arising from hydrocephalus, cerebral palsy and mental retardation, these children were not about to have a nice life growing up ahead of them until kind-hearted souls thought of providing a special haven in which to care for and teach them life skills to aid them in growing as normally as possible. This, in a loving and nurturing environment that allows them to enjoy the joys of kidhood like any other normal child.
